Another set of photos

Hi all,

Realised I had another set of photos in another old Webshots account to contribute. These were taken around the same time as the previous set but in another account due to some limitations using free Webshots account...

Great to see more candid photos coming! Mine are too 'proper' :P

Book Drive - Book Appeal and Poster

Singapore Buddhist Lodge

Youth Expedition Project

14th March 2007

Dear Sir/Mdm,

Request for Old English Storybooks

We are a group of volunteers involved in the Youth Expedition Programme (YEP) organized by the Singapore Buddhist Lodge. This May, we will be heading to Laos, Vientiane for our expedition where we will be building a library and teaching english in Nong Duan School. The school serves the surrounding villages and have an enrollment of about 700 students.

This project is a collaboration of 5 organisations (ITE east, NAFA, NUS Rotaract, Ngee Ann Poly, Singapore Buddhist Lodge) and each will send teams over a span of 4 months.

As such, we are currently conducting a book drive for books to fill up the library. We will need lower primary English storybooks. If you have such books to give away, we would greatly appreciate if you could donate them to us.

If for any reason you are unavailable to come down to our collection booth on the dates shown below, we are also organising additional book drives with the NUS Rotaract club. More details will be out soon.

Details of Book DriveLocation:

Singapore Buddhist Lodge (17-19 Kim Yam Road)

Time & Date: 24th March – 9am to 1pm

25th March – 9am to 6pm

Please feel free to contact us for any queries.

Any ideas for the Mural? =)

Hi guys! :)

Thanks to Charles for the pics! ;)

The Painting/ Landscape Group are thinking of the concept for our mural to be painted for the library, so wondering if anyone likes to chip in ideas? :)

The NAFA team had already painted a mural the last time they were there, on local geography and culture. So our initial thots was not to paint a similar theme, but to work on a concept of the LIBRARY, a house of knowledge! :) We could then include images and icons of all stuff we can learn from books, ranging from fairy tales to fables to astronomy to geography to science etc etc. hmm.. seems a bit challenging for now but hey we are welcome to comments!

or should we paint sthg singaporean? caricatures of us? etc etc.. Do bomb us with ur ideas!!

THANKS!
cheers,Huixin

Our comm service project!!

It's Charles again! :P

Guess you all had got my invitation to see the photos taken during our YEP comm service program. It was a fun and memorable experience spending time with the kids. They are all so hyper, some naughty, some stubborn, some smarties, and all cute :). The teacher, although a little grumpy, is co-operative and nice to us too :). Anyway, if you have accidentally deleted the email invitation (that album is marked as private hence can only be viewed by email invitations only), here is the place u can see it again and again :P. Enjoy!!

Sharing Session at NAFA

Hi people! Pardon me for the delay in the photos....anyway here they are, the sharing session we had with our friends from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts :)

Glad that we learnt quite a lot of useful knowledge during the sharing session, like the do and donts, things to expect, people to take note of, shops to visit and interesting incidents that happened there etc etc :)

A group pic is a must at the end of every session :P

My turn to be inside the pic :P

Full resolution pics can be downloaded at my webshots album via the email invitation that I had sent to you. Thanks Huixin for lending her company's camera for this event! :)

A brief overall knowledge of Laos, a long read, might be boring for some, but think nonetheless useful to know ;)
